Mayor Purzycki Thanks Jacobs for Sponsoring the Thirteenth Annual Wilmington Bicycle Giveaway
December 18, 2018
Mayor Mike Purzycki and Constituent Services Director Jennifer Prado today thanked Sharon Jean-Baptiste and her colleagues from the consulting firm Jacobs for providing and helping to distribute bicycles to 30 disadvantaged children in the City of Wilmington for Christmas. The bikes were purchased by Jacobs, a company that provides engineering design, construction, and operations consulting services to Wilmington and other governments around the world. The Mayor’s Office of Constituent Services assists Jacobs by working with numerous community and neighborhood centers to identify families that would benefit most from the holiday bicycle giveaway.

This is the thirteenth consecutive year Jacobs has provided bicycles to children in Wilmington, which increases the total number of bicycles distributed to local youths over the years to over 480. Jacobs staff members organize and participate in Bikes for Kids fundraising events throughout the year, and partner with Neighborhood Bike Works, whose youth builders assemble the bikes prior to distribution. Representatives from Jacobs, the City, including several Police Officers, and community agencies will present the bikes to area families on Monday, December 18, just in time for Christmas celebrations.
“We are pleased to partner once again with the City of Wilmington for our Bikes for Kids Program,” said Stan Niemczak, Jacobs Operations Lead for PA/DE. “Our employees are excited to give back to our local communities and brighten the holidays for some deserving city children. Jacobs is proud to support programs that promote the environmental stewardship of our communities and increase awareness and aptitude for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career opportunities. More than putting smiles on the faces of deserving children in the communities where we work and live, these bicycles can provide them with a sense of freedom and pride. We are grateful to Mayor Purzycki and City leadership for again providing us with the opportunity to fulfill this important mission.”

“Jacobs has a long history of giving back to our community, and we are particularly grateful for their commitment during the holidays when many families struggle with limited resources,” said Mayor Purzycki. “The company has shown that it truly cares about our City and our residents, and is an excellent example of the many good corporate citizens that call Wilmington home. We thank Jacobs and its employees for the way they support our families, not just during the holidays but throughout the year.”
