DELAWARE BLUE COATS ACQUIRE RETURNING PLAYER RIGHTS TO JULIAN WASHBURN FROM AUSTIN SPURS

WILMINGTON – SEPT. 4, 2019 – The Delaware Blue Coats, NBA G League affiliate of the Philadelphia 76ers, announced today that the team has acquired the returning player rights to Julian Washburn from the Austin Spurs in exchange for the returning player rights to Matt Farrell. The trade is not subject to player physicals.
Washburn, a 6-foot-8 forward, began the 2018-19 G League season with Austin before signing a two-way contract with the Memphis Grizzlies in January. In 38 total regular-season G League games (30 starts) between Austin and Memphis last season, the 27-year old Washburn averaged 11.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 32.3 minutes per game. In 18 NBA contests (three starts) for the Grizzlies, he posted 2.2 points and 2.3 rebounds in 14.1 minutes per game.
The Duncanville, Texas native spent both the 2015-16 and 2017-18 G League seasons in Austin as well, helping the Spurs capture the 2018 G League Finals. He also played professionally in Germany (Walter Tigers Tubingen) and New Zealand (Canterbury Rams) between 2016-18.
Washburn played his college basketball at the University of Texas at El Paso from 2011-15, earning Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year honors as a senior in 2015.
In 45 games for the Blue Coats last season, Farrell averaged 10.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 6.2 assists in 27.0 minutes per game.
