Cityfest, Inc. is Inviting Nominations for 
Clifford Brown International Jazz Day Awards

Nominations for four awards will be accepted at Cityfest.com [cityfestwilm.com] until Monday, April 12, 2021 

Cityfest, Inc., announced today that nominations are now being accepted for the following awards: Clifford Brown Legacy Award; Clifford Brown Advocacy, Volunteerism & Philanthropy in Jazz Award; Clifford Brown Young & Swinging Award; and the Clifford Brown Top Jazz Presenter Award. Nominations will be accepted via the online application site at Cityfest.com [cityfestwilm.com] until April 12, 2021, at 11:59 p.m.

The awards will be presented at the Clifford Brown Year-Round International Jazz Day Awards Concert to be held on Friday April 30, 2021, as part of the City of Wilmington’s International Jazz Day Festivities. The concert will also feature trumpeter Terrell Stafford [terellstafford.com] with the Clifford Brown Festival Band led by Gerald Chavis [geraldchavismusic.com]. The concert and awards ceremony will be hosted by and streamed live from The Delaware Theatre Company [delawaretheatre.org].

The Award Categories are:

Clifford Brown Legacy Award
At least 5 years of experience in the field of jazz performance or jazz education. Demonstrate exemplary leadership and effectiveness in teaching, and contributing to the genre to enhance knowledge and spiritual awakening.

Clifford Brown Advocacy, Volunteerism, & Philanthropy in Jazz Award
At least 5 years of demonstrated advocacy and influence to advance the cause of jazz performance, creation, and education; demonstrated philanthropic support within the jazz community to preserve, promote, and sustain the jazz art form as a vital aspect of life locally, nationally, and internationally; demonstrated volunteerism and leadership in sharing the value of the jazz art form, as “a jazz ambassador” in the state, region, and nation.

Young & Swinging Award
An individual up to the age 25, who has demonstrated dedication and commitment to jazz through performance, composition, mentoring and/or other pursuits; considered a role model in the community; have a demonstrated record of community service and leadership.

Clifford Brown Top Jazz Presenter Award
A business or non-profit with a demonstrated commitment to employing and presenting jazz artists and live music by making the art form accessible to diverse audiences with a standard of professional excellence that honors and respects both the artists and the art form.

Following the Awards Concert and presentation on April 30th, Cityfest, Inc., will host a virtual Artists Forum on Saturday May 1st featuring panels of musicians, presenters, and agents addressing the continuum of a jazz artist’s career. This program is for emerging and seasoned professionals.

International Jazz Day [jazzday.com] brings together communities, schools, artists, historians, academics, and jazz enthusiasts all over the world to celebrate and learn about jazz and its roots, its future, and its impact; raise awareness of the need for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding; and reinforce international cooperation and communication.

Concert proceeds support programs like the Clifford Brown Year-Round Series as well as other programs produced by Cityfest, Inc., such as the Urban Artist Exchange Artists’ Studios, the Arts Work Summer Youth Apprenticeship Program, and the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival.
