Legislation introduced by Sens. Braun and Stabenow approved by Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee, heads to Senate floor
WASHINGTON — Today, the bipartisan Senate Climate Solutions Caucus [coons.senate.gov] celebrated Earth Day and applauded committee passage of the Growing Climate Solutions Act, legislation introduced by caucus Co-chair Senator Mike Braun (R-Ind.) and U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.). The bill, approved today by voice vote, is cosponsored by every member of the Climate Solutions Caucus. It breaks down barriers for farmers and foresters interested in participating in carbon markets so they can be rewarded for climate-smart practices.
“The Growing Climate Solutions Act will empower farmers and foresters to be rewarded for their sustainable, climate-smart practices. It’s a climate solution that farmers, industry, and those who care about sustaining our environment can get behind, and I’m proud that this bill has been supported by over 30 senators with a strong bipartisan consensus, and its approval by the Agriculture Committee today is another win for bipartisan climate solutions designed to benefit everyone,” said Senator Braun, co-chair of the Climate Solutions Caucus.
“On Earth Day, our committee came together in a bipartisan way to pass the Growing Climate Solutions Act,” said Chairwoman Stabenow. “This brings us one step closer to providing more opportunities for farmers and foresters to lead in addressing the climate crisis and also benefit from new streams of income.”
“Earth Day is an opportunity for all of us to reflect on ways we can protect our environment and create a more sustainable future for our communities, our country, and our planet,” said Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.), co-chair of the Climate Solutions Caucus. “The Growing Climate Solutions Act is an example of how we can bring everyone to the table to find common ground on solutions that will protect our environment and combat climate change. I look forward to working with Senators Braun, Stabenow, and members of the caucus to advance it into law.”
The Growing Climate Solutions Act is cosponsored by 43 senators, including every member of the bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus: Senators Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Angus King (I-Maine), Mitt Romney (R-Utah), Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), and Rob Portman (R-Ohio) in addition to Braun, Stabenow, and Coons.
The Senate Climate Solutions Caucus promotes bipartisan discussion about climate policy and advocates for Congress to play a central role in addressing the challenge. Since launching in late 2019, the caucus has held regular meetings with a variety of stakeholders to discuss their concerns and priorities for federal climate policy and opportunities for collaboration.
