REGISTER POPPITI APPLAUDS NEW FEMA PROGRAM COVID-19 FUNERAL ASSISTANCE

THANK YOU TO FEMA AND FUNERAL DIRECTORS

New Castle County Register of Wills Ciro Poppiti hosted a videoconference today with FEMA and County funeral directors to “get the word out” on a new FEMA program.

For a death occurring after January 20, 2020, FEMA will reimburse out-of-pocket funeral expenses up to $9,000.  The cause of death must be related to Covid-19, as documented on the death certificate.  Application details follow below.

FEMA representatives John Donahue, Robert Hoban, and Gabe Lugo joined the meeting to explain the program.

New Castle County Register of Wills Poppiti thanked FEMA for this worthwhile program.  He also thanked the New Castle County funeral directors who have performed extraordinary, heroic service to our community during the pandemic.

HOW TO APPLY

Call 844-684-6333 / TTY 800-462-7585 

A FEMA Representative will personally help the caller fill out an application.  (No online application will be accepted.)  The call takes about 20 minutes.  It is important to gather all necessary information and documentation before applying for assistance.

As a result of applying via phone, the caller will be given an Application Number.  Using the Application Number, you may provide supporting documentation to FEMA as follows:

+Snail mail documents to PO Box 10001, Hyattsville, MD 20782

Assistance is up to $9,000 per funeral.
