Mayor Purzycki and Chief Campos Call for Disposal of Unused Prescription Medications at Frawley Stadium on April 27
April 22, 2024
Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki and Chief of Police Wilfredo Campos extend an invitation to the community to participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Residents are encouraged to bring any unneeded or expired prescription medications to Frawley Stadium on the Riverfront between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., where they will be collected by Wilmington police officers.
The initiative, aimed at addressing the public safety risks associated with unused prescription medications, emphasizes the dangers of these drugs becoming a gateway to addiction. Opioid addiction often begins with prescription pills found in household medicine cabinets, highlighting the importance of safe disposal.
This event, marking the fifth participation by the Wilmington Police Department, underscores the commitment to providing a convenient and anonymous method for the disposal of unneeded medications. Sergeant Joseph Leary of the WPD Support Services Division stresses the significance of properly disposing of prescription medications to mitigate the risks of overdose, abuse, and accidental poisoning.
In addition to the event at Frawley Stadium, a permanent collection bin is available at the Wilmington Police Department’s headquarters. For further details about the DEA initiative and to find other collection sites, visit www.dea.gov/takebackday.
