**Summer 2024 Events Promote Health, Happiness, and Safety for Wilmington’s Youth**

Wilmington, DE – At-Large Councilwoman Latisha Bracy proudly announces the return of Wilmington Play Streets for another impactful year. This initiative, designed to foster vibrant, safe, and engaging spaces for children and families, continues to honor the legacy of the late former At-Large Councilwoman Rysheema Dixon. Dixon’s visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to her community remain an inspiration to us all.

The 2024 Play Streets events are made possible through the generous support of ChristianaCare, the Rysheema Dixon Foundation, the City of Wilmington Parks & Recreation, Mayor Mike Purzycki, and Councilwoman Latisha L. Bracy. Their commitment ensures that Play Streets will once again provide healthy and enjoyable environments for Wilmington’s residents.

**About Play Streets**

Founded by Rysheema Dixon in 2011, the Wilmington Play Streets program is a community development initiative managed by RD Innovative Planning. The program temporarily closes neighborhood blocks to traffic, transforming them into safe, lively spaces filled with play equipment. This initiative promotes healthy lifestyles and community cohesion by offering children, families, and neighbors a secure environment to connect and engage in physical activity.

**Event Details**

The Play Streets program creates secure, traffic-free zones where children can thrive and communities can come together. By offering various activities and play equipment, the program aims to foster healthy habits and improve overall well-being for families. Additionally, Play Streets enhances community cohesion by bringing neighbors together, especially in areas with limited access to parks and recreational spaces. The program also aims to build trust between residents and law enforcement, contributing to a safer community environment.

The 2024 Play Streets events promise to continue Rysheema Dixon’s impactful work, bringing joy and unity to Wilmington’s neighborhoods. Councilwoman Bracy invites everyone to celebrate Dixon’s legacy and support the well-being of our community.

“This initiative is deeply personal to me,” said Councilwoman Bracy. “I had the privilege of knowing Councilwoman Dixon and supporting her work. It is my honor to sponsor Play Streets in her memory and to continue her legacy of impactful public service.”
