September 6, 2024
WILMINGTON, DE – September 6, 2024 – In an ongoing commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, The Grand Opera House in Wilmington proudly announces its lineup of sensory-friendly performances for the 2024-2025 season. This thoughtfully curated series is designed to welcome individuals of all ages who thrive in a more relaxed and accommodating environment, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the magic of live performance without the constraints of traditional theater settings.
The season launches with the effervescent spectacle of *Jeff Boyer’s Big Bubble Bonanza* on November 3 in the illustrious Copeland Hall. Boyer, a Guinness World Record holder and master bubble artist, promises an afternoon of whimsical wonder, with bubble rainbows, volcano bubbles, and even bubbles large enough to encase audience members. “It’s a sensory-friendly bubble extravaganza for the whole family,” Boyer has said of his show, which combines comedy, music, and interactive bubble magic. The performance is designed to engage and delight, offering a captivating experience that transcends age barriers.
Following this, on February 8, The Grand welcomes *Dan + Claudia Zanes with Tyree Austin* to the stage. Grammy-winning children’s performer Dan Zanes, alongside Haitian-American music therapist and jazz vocalist Claudia Zanes, invites audiences into a vibrant and interactive musical journey. Their performances are renowned for blending joy with a subtle educational touch, creating what Claudia Zanes describes as “a casual, subversively educational party atmosphere.” The duo’s homespun, joyful melodies are enhanced by Tyree Austin’s dynamic presence, making their concerts a beloved staple in schools and communities alike.
Capping off the sensory-friendly series on April 5, the baby grand will host *”Japanese Storytelling with Magical Masks, Mime, and Music” by Kuniko Yamamoto*. This enchanting performance weaves traditional Japanese folktales with the artistry of masks, mime, origami, and music, offering a unique cultural experience. Yamamoto’s show is more than just entertainment; it’s an opportunity for cross-cultural connection, fostering understanding through the shared joy of storytelling. As one attendee remarked after a previous performance, “Kuniko transports you to another world, where every gesture and sound carries deep meaning and beauty.”
Tickets for these performances are now available to the general public and can be purchased online at TheGrandWilmington.org or by calling 302-652-5577.
