Ignite Your Future: Explore Life as a Wilmington Firefighter!
September 6, 2024
Hey, Wilmington youth! Ever wondered what it’s like to be a firefighter? Here’s your chance to find out! Join us for the Wilmington Fire Department’s Open House on Saturday, September 14, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Emergency Operations Center, 22 South Heald Street.
If you’re between 14 and 20 years old and curious about a career in firefighting, this event is for you. Mayor Mike Purzycki and Fire Chief John Looney invite you to discover the Fire Explorer Program—a FREE, hands-on experience that could be the start of something big.
This program is all about diving into the world of firefighting. You’ll train with real Wilmington firefighters, learn first aid, get real-world experience at the Delaware State Fire School, and even rock the same uniforms as the pros! Plus, it’s not just about firefighting—you’ll build leadership skills and make a difference through community service.
Chief Looney says, “This program is your ticket to discovering what it takes to be a hero in our city. If you’re ready to learn and grow, we’re ready to guide you.”
And Mayor Purzycki adds, “Being a firefighter is challenging, but it’s also one of the most rewarding careers out there. If you’ve ever thought about becoming a first responder, this is your chance to get started.”
So, if you’re ready to take the first step toward an epic career, don’t miss this opportunity. Bring a parent or guardian if you’re under 18, and get ready to explore a future with the Wilmington Fire Department.
