Magic execute lesson plans on education day
By Saquan Stimpson
WILMINGTON, Del. — The school bell rang early for the Delaware Blue Coats on Tuesday, but the lesson plan was all Osceola Magic. Behind a dominant 28-point performance from Colin Castleton, the Magic (8-6) schooled Delaware (6-11) with a 115-95 victory at Chase Fieldhouse in a morning showdown for Education Day.
As students packed the stands, Castleton delivered a masterclass in efficiency, shooting 9-of-13 from the floor while adding nine rebounds, three blocks, and three steals. The former Florida Gator, who went undrafted in 2023 before signing a two-way deal with the Los Angeles Lakers and later joining Osceola, wasted no time making his presence felt.
The short-handed Blue Coats, playing without Jarron Cumberland, struggled to find consistent offense. Jaylen Martin led Delaware with 15 points, while Aminu Mohammed chipped in 10 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
Osceola’s balanced attack saw all five starters hit double figures. Ethan Thompson poured in 21 points while hitting 50 percent from deep, Jalen Slawson added 16 points and 11 boards, and Alex Morales stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Stepping into the starting lineup for McClung, veteran guard Javonte Smart nearly posted a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds on 8-of-14 shooting.
The Magic will look to keep their momentum rolling when they close out a three-game road trip against the Eastern Conference-leading Raptors 905 on Friday, Feb. 7. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET, with coverage on Tubi. They’ll return home to Kissimmee on Sunday, Feb. 9, to host the Grand Rapids Gold at 3 p.m. ET, airing on FanDuel Sports Network Florida and NBA TV.
Osceola will also host a Black History Month Celebration, presented by Publix, on Monday, Feb. 10, in a rematch against Grand Rapids. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a special edition Black History Month Magic jersey.
Meanwhile, Magic two-way guard Trevelin Queen received a major honor this past week, earning a selection to the 2025 G League Up Next Game as part of NBA All-Star Weekend in San Francisco. Queen, who took home MVP honors in last year’s Up Next Game, will look to put on another show for the national audience.
As for the Blue Coats, the road ahead won’t get any easier. Delaware kicks off a six-game road trip against the Maine Celtics on Feb. 6 before finally returning home on Feb. 26 for a showdown with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
