Climate Solutions Caucus hosts discussion on climate policies in agriculture
March 12, 2021
WASHINGTON — On Thursday, members of the Climate Solutions Caucus met with leaders of agriculture industries and the environmental community to discuss climate solutions in agriculture. Participants included: Chuck Connor, President and CEO of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives; Elizabeth Gore, Senior Vice President of Political Affairs for the Environmental Defense Fund; Anne Alonzo, Senior VP of External Affairs and Chief Sustainability Officer for Corteva Agriscience; and Mark Tracy, CEO of Cloud Agronomics.
“We need to employ every sector of our economy in the fight against climate change,” said Senator Coons, co-chair of the Senate Climate Solutions Caucus. “I was grateful to learn from leaders in American agriculture, including our home-state company Corteva, how we can support our land managers and farmers in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the environment.”
“I have long said that America’s farmers and ranchers are already some of our best environmental stewards,” said Senator Braun, co-chair of the Senate Climate Solutions Caucus. “This is demonstrated in the statistics which show that American agriculture is exponentially more productive and cleaner than the rest of the world. I look forward to continuing to find bipartisan solutions, like the Growing Climate Solutions Act, that helps farmers make that case, and I appreciate the efforts of agriculture leaders to do the same.”
While the climate crisis poses serious threats to our food supply and economy, our farmers and foresters are a key part of the solution,” said Senator Stabenow, Chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry. “Today, both the Climate Solutions Caucus and Senate Agriculture Committee heard powerful testimony about the climate-smart work happening on the ground. Now it’s time to act to help scale up these practices and combat the climate crisis head on.”
The Senate Climate Solutions Caucus promotes bipartisan discussion about climate policy and advocates for Congress to play a central role in addressing the challenge. Since launching in late 2019, the caucus has held regular meetings with a variety of stakeholders to discuss their concerns and priorities for federal climate policy and opportunities for collaboration.
