Reggae Roots Festival Coming To Delaware For A Weekend Of COVID-Conscious Live Music Featuring Over 20 Bands
May 18, 2021
WILMINGTON, DE — SuperNova Productions recently announced its first annual Reggae Roots Music Festival, set to kick off July 30 for a weekend of live music, camping, workshops, art vendors, food, and exclusive parties on scenic Thousand Acre Farm; a premier waterfront venue located in Middletown, DE.
In addition to a world-class lineup of Jamaican steel drum bands, Reggae artists, and dancehall DJs — Reggae Roots will be serving up shuttle boats, kid-friendly workshops, and panel presentations by NORML. Grown ups can take advantage of multiple fully-stocked tiki bars, VIP parties, and ‘premium experience’ tickets with catered meals and private party barn access.
Dre Corbitt, event founder, has been keeping the arts alive in Delaware throughout the COVID-19 pandemic by helping local performers, churches, and the city of Wilmington itself livestream events like The Clifford Brown Jazz Festival. He writes, “after the isolation of 2020, I knew I wanted to create an event that brought together families, friends, local businesses, and performers again as safely as possible. We all need unity, positivity, and love right now.
That’s our mission with Reggae Roots.” Performers and vendors are just as eager as Delaware locals to get out again after last Summer’s strict social distancing. Jah People, a headlining act, shares their excitement for the event: “Delaware was Bob Marley’s second home. Bob lived and worked in Delaware in the early 70’s, and Jah People couldn’t be more excited to bring the timeless music of The Great Bob Marley back to Delaware! Marley was all about the music and the People…were ready to deliver Marley’s message and music to the place he planted his roots.”
Tiana Jackson, one of the festival’s art vendors agrees, “I’m really looking forward to finally getting back outside and enjoying some great music, food and fun!”
Amidst all the excitement, event organizers are working overtime to ensure festival-goers’ safety is paramount at Reggae Roots. On-site COVID-19 testing will be available for free during the weekend, and both staff and attendees will be expected to adhere to the rules set by the state of Delaware for social gatherings.
“Safety is a huge part of the vision we had for this festival. Thousand Acre Farm has worked closely with changing guidelines to host COVID-conscious weddings and gatherings throughout 2020, and we’re continuing to use these skills to make Reggae Roots a safe celebration of summer,“ comments Mike Hynson, owner of Thousand Acre Farm.
