Wilmington Celebrates the Return of Bike-to-Work Day This Friday
May 25, 2021
The City of Wilmington is happy to announce that Bike-to-Work Day is BACK! Wilmington will celebrate this popular cycling event on Friday, May 28, and Mayor Mike Purzycki invites residents to join one of five guided rides into the City, terminating at H.B. DuPont Plaza, at the intersection of Delaware Avenue and North Washington Street downtown. Visit this link to check out the routes.
Each ride begins at 7:45 a.m. and ends with a reception at the plaza from 8 -9:30 a.m. The event is FREE, but registration is required. This is a great opportunity to experience the City by bicycle with an experienced ride leader and meet fellow cyclists as well. All registered participants will receive free refreshments and a free t-shirt. The Mayor said today that Downtown employees who want to join Bike-to-Work Day with the City of Wilmington can SIGN UP here.
“I am happy that Bike-to-Work Day is returning to the City this year, and that the event continues to get the support it does from employees and other Wilmington residents,” said Mayor Purzycki. “I am also pleased that the City remains actively engaged in encouraging a healthy lifestyle and responsible stewardship of our environment. Given our size, Wilmington is a very bikeable environment. Biking is an affordable, eco-friendly, and healthy way to travel back and forth to the office, run short errands, and visit friends, so I hope Wilmingtonians of all ages will consider becoming a part of the local biking community.”

Finally, Mayor Purzycki encouraged residents to learn more about the City’s recently updated Wilmington Bicycle Plan, first developed by the City of Wilmington, a steering committee, and the public and published by WILMAPCO in 2008.
