Neighborhood, church, and business groups should register now for this year’s Citywide clean-up on April 23 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.; an Earth Day Opens Streets event will occur on the afternoon of April 23 along Market Street from 4th to 10th Streets
Mayor Mike Purzycki today urged residents, community groups, and businesses around the City to participate in Wilmington’s annual Community Clean-Up Day on Saturday, April 23 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Citywide clean-up is one element of Wilmington’s Beautiful City campaign, launched in 2017 to keep the City clean, and is being held this year in conjunction with Earth Day 2022.
Each year, scores of groups plan a beautification project. So whatever project you select, be sure to register at this link. Once you are registered, the City’s Constituent Services Office will contact you to provide items such as trash bags, yard waste bags, gloves, and trash pickers.
In recent years, as many as 70 community groups – including churches, businesses, schools, and non-profit organizations – have participated by improving neighborhoods and public green spaces. Some groups focused on collecting trash and debris, while others planted flowers, updated landscaping, or started a community garden project.
The deadline to register for the community clean-up is Friday, April 15, so REGISTER TODAY!
Mayor Purzycki urges Community Clean-Up Day participants to attend the City’s Earth Day Open Streets event [delawareestuary.org] once they’ve wrapped up their Saturday morning projects.
This FREE event, open to everyone from around the City, will celebrate Earth Day with the first in a series of Open Streets Wilmington events on Saturday, April 23 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Market Street from 4th to 10th Streets. Open Streets create a safe, car-free environment for residents of all ages and abilities to enjoy time outside walking, biking, and more. This six-block stretch of Market Street will be closed to vehicular traffic for this special day so residents can enjoy a healthy slate of activities with environmental education exhibitors, crafts for children, and other great things to enjoy. A separate news release will be issued this week regarding Earth Day 2022.
