Mayor Purzycki Invites You to Join the Celebration: 47th St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Hooley in Downtown Wilmington!

Mayor Purzycki, along with Police Chief Wilfredo Campos, Fire Chief John Looney, Grand Marshals Joe and Gerry McCoy, and representatives of the O.N.E. Irish Veterans Organization, cordially invites residents and visitors to partake in the festivities. The traditional painting of the ceremonial green stripe on King Street will commence at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, with Mayor Purzycki officially proclaiming March as “Irish American Heritage Month” in Wilmington.

The free, family-friendly St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off at 12:00 p.m. from 4th and King Streets, featuring floats, marching bands, dancers, and more. The Parade route runs up King Street, past the Parade Grandstand at Rodney Square, culminating near 14th Street where the post-Parade Hooley awaits. Anticipated to last about ninety minutes, the Hooley will conclude no later than 4:00 p.m.

Mayor Purzycki expressed, “The St. Patrick’s Day Parade remains a cherished City tradition, deeply intertwined with our vibrant community’s cultural fabric. Our shared history with the Irish community is significant, and we’re thrilled to extend our warm hospitality to our esteemed guests.” He also encourages attendees to explore Downtown’s myriad dining options and local attractions.

Street closures will be in effect from 11:00 a.m. to approximately 4:00 p.m., affecting King Street from East 2nd to East 15th Street, along with several other adjacent streets.
